Velda would have been overwhelmed at the out-pouring of kindness and support for her family and friends. As one of her friends, I thank you.

The Greene County Fair is history. When sitting with Phyllis Gannon, we always reminisce about the “good old days” at the fair. Phyllis has attended the fair every year, except when Eugene was sick, since her oldest, Rick, started 4-H and Eugene was the leader. She could write a book. There has never been a break in the Gannon connection at the fair. When their youngest daughter Jenny was a junior, their oldest grandchild Jessica, was in her first year. At one time in the swine show this year, there was her youngest grandchild and six or seven great-grandchildren showing their pigs. That keeps Hugh Gannon very busy supplying the pigs for all those events! There’s a few more years left of the Gannon legacy, as there are several who aren’t old enough yet to be in 4-H. That’s a lot of record books and ribbons over the last half century!
Barbara, David, Bailey, Riley, Keagan, and Delaney Ovenshire of Cedar Rapids and Grandma Connie Neese of Rippey recently returned from a trip to the American Youth Soccer Natioal meet in Torrance, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles. The family met with Brandi Chastine, a three time Olympian soccer player, who welcomed the Ovenshires as the Soccer Family. That honor included tickets to Disney World. The week went quickly with multiple games daily for the girls at many locations. Any possible extra time was spent trying to do some sightseeing that included a chance viewing of the US IOWA. Another highlight was watching the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer professional team win over the Portland, OR, team. The “fans” were also part of the entertainment. “What a great opportunity to be included in this trip,” said a tired grandma!
Linda Borgeson-Hampton and son Jayden of Chandler, AZ, spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the home of her brother Alan, Sarah, Kane and Kale Borgeson of Rippey. She came for the funeral of Velda DeMoss, which was held on Friday afternoon. Sarah, Jean, Linda and Jayden attended the bridal shower for Kari Bodholdt, bride-to-be of Bryce DeMoss on Saturday morning. Later in the afternoon, Jean, Linda, and Jayden attended the graduation party at Spring Lake for Bailey Ovenshire of Cedar Rapids. Linda’s brothers, Michael and Jill Borgeson, Jace Johnson, and Seth of Rippey and Robert Borgeson of Jamaica joined the rest of the family Saturday evening at the Alan Borgeson’s for supper and visiting. Linda returned to Chandler on Sunday evening.
Recently, Nancy and Dale Hanaman hosted her sister and husband, Sharon and Phil McBlain of Hambden, CT, and their granddaughter Claire Beckley of Carlisle, MA, for a few days. They enjoyed visits to the Greene County Historical Society, sharing time with Velda DeMoss and a picnic at the Jefferson Depot. Phil and Sharon and Claire also visited with John and Dena Bardole while in the area.
Nancy and Dale Hanaman attended the visitation for Rev. Raymond Moore in Indianola and shared time with his wife Marjorie, and daughter, the Rev. Kathy Moore, and family members. Rev. Moore served the Rippey UMC from 1957-1961.
